The Rev. Dr. Debela Birri retired from the faculty of Ethiopian Graduate School of Theology (EGST) after serving as its President and Professor of Church History and the New Testament. His teaching, leadership, and ministry activities at EGST and Mekane Yesus Seminary (MYS) have been numerous, and they have spanned classroom settings and various administrative offices of the Schools and Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) in general.

Rev. Dr. Debela Birri is best known for his excellence in teaching, and his courses have always been highly popular and greatly valued by students. Almost all of his students attest to his compassion and brilliance as an instructor. He also has an unwavering commitment to building relationships with students both inside and outside of the classroom. The Reverend has always maintained a heart for education, especially for those students who experience financial difficulties.

As a tribute to his astounding career in the field of education and in thanksgiving for their life and witness, a 501 (c) 3 foundation is established by the family and friends of the Rev. Dr. Debela Birri and Mrs. Hanna Antonio.
